Exchange Value

Experimental Short, 2025

Exchange Value is an experimental short film exploring the friction of sensory experience in an age of seamless convenience. In a hypercapitalist world that conditions us to choose paths of least resistance, we are estranged from the embodied, memory-making processes that give life texture and meaning. Through dissonant, algorithmically modulated audio, the film becomes a meditation on how we might reawaken our capacity for agentive remembrance—and reclaim the small frictions that ground us in the present.

Centerpiece, sanctions and affirms the ability to have one’s cake and to eat it all. Using the dinner party as a thematic entry point, this short explores how excess, debauchery, and spectacle can become a form of resistance to normative modes of consumption. What is the charge of an empty plate? The gendered implications of paucity and restraint? Can unproductive pleasure be a form of embodied praxis?

With its initial conception born from the desire to visualize a piece of prose, The Things We Bring explores the ways we choose to foster a dialogue between our different temporal identities and how we honor the bonds between our past, present, and future selves.
